According to Senior Vice-President Doug Anderson “Monarchy is about the furthest thing from a popularity contest and that may be a source of comfort for Prince Charles. William, his eldest son and heir would be the preferred choice for Canada’s next monarch, although Canadians are quite divided on their opinions about the monarchy’s relevance at all. Few are clamouring to sever ties, but about as many feel that the monarchy is now archaic.”
